Reply from Di Bouglas, as I attended the meeting.

Simon:

Yes, we were told that these were documents which had been dealt with under (I think) the Regimental Debts Act. These are the boxes which some people may remember from the old Somerset House days. John Briden believed that they had been passed to the Probate Service so that they could add them to the calendars but that had not been done.

I understood that the cost will be on the same basis as it will be to purchase any will and/or grant online. Certainly no more than the current £6.

Some soldiers' wills are actually in the Probate Calendars already. And very informative the entries are.
I suspect that the new material will pertain to the wills completed by soldiers in their paybooks.
Do you know how much access to this material will cost?

I certainly talked with John Briden on this back in about 2009/2010 I would guess and had the feeling then that something was imminent. But nothing seemed to happen.

As you well appreciate it is one of the key tools that needs to go online to trace people forwards to able to identify DNA candidates.

Can you enroll me on your feed, please. I did not know you had this - but I have always tended to look at Cliff Webb's publications and the WSFHS site, for obvious reasons.
